ANTI-AGEING MEDICINE

Anti-ageing medicine is a new medical specialty devoted to slowing the ageing process. The aim is to maintain youthful vigour and vitality as people grow old, and delay or prevent the onset of degenerative diseases.

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Integrative medicine is the integrated use of conventional and complementary practices.  Conventional medicine is probably best defined as the medicine endorsed by the medical establishment.  Complementary medicine is the term used to describe non-conventional therapies such as acupuncture, homeopathy and botanical medicine.

Integrative medicine makes use of the best available evidence of both approaches to healing. One of its important characteristics is that it considers the mind-body-spirit connection within the patient and regards the patient as a whole.

Integrative medicine is based on a physician-patient partnership in which both conventional and alternative modalities are used to stimulate the body’s natural healing potential.

NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE

Nutritional medicine is the study of the interactions of nutritional factors with human physiology, biochemistry, pathology and anatomy and the clinical implications of these interactions in the optimisation of health and the prevention of disease.

ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE

Environmental medicine focuses on the interactions between the environment and human health, and the role of the environment in causing or mediating disease. Environmental medicine is concerned with all aspects of allergy and the adverse effects on human health of environmental factors such as electromagnetic radiation, toxic chemicals and heavy metals.

HORMONE BALANCING

Correct hormone levels are essential for wellness.  It is said that the hormones of the body work together as a “symphony”, like the instruments of an orchestra.  No one hormone should be looked at in isolation, as all the hormones have a complex inter-relationship.

Hormone balancing involves balancing the levels of all the hormones of the body to ensure optimal function. Hormones that need to balanced include DHEA, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid hormone, growth hormone, cortisol and melatonin.

BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT FOR MENOPAUSE

In anti-ageing medicine hormone replacement is generally with bio-identical (natural) hormones, which are hormones that are identical to those produced in the body.  These hormones are derived from soy and yam.

Treatment of the menopause with bio-identical hormones has advantages over conventional hormone replacement. Research has shown that conventional hormone replacement for menopause causes an increase in heart disease, breast cancer, stroke and blood clots.  By comparison, bio-identical hormones used for menopause have fewer side-effects and can be more readily tailored to the individual.

TREATMENT FOR ANDROPAUSE

The andropause, or “the male menopause”, is an important issue which has largely been unrecognised by doctors.  In men, the level of the male sex hormone, testosterone, drops steadily from age 40.  This results in symptoms commonly experienced by middle-aged men such as depression, lethargy, irritability and loss of libido.  Supplementation with testosterone can correct this problem.

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME (CFS) & FIBROMYALGIA

His approach to the treatment of CFS uses the following strategies:

Nutritional supplements – both oral and intravenous.  These may include vitamin C and other anti-oxidants, B vitamins, magnesium and selenium.

Management of allergies and sensitivities (most CFS sufferers have associated allergies)

Hormone balancing

Stress reduction

Stress reduction

ALLERGY TESTING & TREATMENT

Dr Dobie  has had wide experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of allergies and sensitivities, including food allergies, hayfever, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS).

CHELATION

Chelation with intravenous EDTA is a useful treatment for cardiovascular disease such as angina and intermittent claudication (blocked arteries to the legs). In some cases chelation can prevent the need for a heart bypass operation

COSMETIC MEDICINE

Dr Dobie practices non-surgical cosmetic medicine.  He uses anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler injections.  These injections can soften wrinkle lines and give a more youthful appearance to the face.

INTRAVENOUS VITAMIN THERAPY

Dr Dobie uses intravenous vitamins, particularly vitamin C and B vitamins, in the treatment of a range of conditions including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome  (CFS), Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), allergies, and acute and chronic infections.
